DVS & SAFETY STANDARDS

Following on from the Vision Zero concept founded in Sweden to reduce or completely eliminate road fatalities, fitting vehicle safety equipment to vehicles has become standard practice for the UK Transport Industry.

The UK has taken the lead to enforce the world's first safety legislation, the Direct Vision Standard (DVS) from Transport for London (TfL), on Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) above 12T travelling through the capital city and its surrounding area, Greater London. This safety legislation is derived from the leading industry safety standard, the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS); bringing best practice to all operators.

From 28th October 2024, all 0-2 DVS star rated HGVs over 12T travelling through Great London will need to install a Progressive Safe System (PSS) before applying for a DVS Safety Permit.

BENEFITS TO YOUR FLEET, TO YOUR BUSINESS

Win business

Being both DVS and FORS compliant not only allows you to travel and operate freely and legally in London, but it also opens up more business opportunities for operators. Over £7billion worth of contracts have specified FORS as one of the mandatory requirements.

Reduce insurance costs

Reduce insurance costs

Many insurers expect fleets to have safety equipment fitted to their vehicles. Operators obtaining certain vehicle safety accreditations such as FORS Bronze, Silver or Gold could see a reduction in insurance premiums. According to FORS, FORS members have saved a combined £2.2 million.

Enrolling your drivers on to an accredited driving course combined with the use of safety solutions could help to lower your fleet's CO2 emissions by up to 14% and improve your MPG by up to 12%. Protecting the environment and making your business more sustainable at the same time.
