Things to consider before buying a Camera Monitoring CCTV kit
Monitor size and number of channels
Leisure customers might prefer a smaller 5" monitor whilst Truck drivers usually go for 7". 9" monitors are becoming increasingly popular as they are recommended by FORS.
Application – wired or wireless?
Commonly, commercial vehicles are fitted with a wired kit. Wireless systems enable a driver to easily interchange trailers. Installation is also quicker since no cable is needed between cameras and monitor.
Number of triggers.
Do you want the monitor to automatically display a camera view? If the customer wants the monitor to automatically display the left camera when turning left and rear camera when reversing, the kit will need 2 triggers. Sometimes CCTV kits come with 1 trigger only.
Quality of the display – monitor and cameras
Make sure the monitor is TFT-LCD. Together with CCD cameras or CMOS cameras with over 600TVL to get a good quality image. Rear & side cameras should have infrared LEDs for night vision.
IP rating – protection against water and dust ingress
Making sure your cameras are protected against the elements Go for IP68 as minimum for a fully water- and dustproof camera. An IP69K rating means your camera will resist jet/ pressure wash.
Quality assurance
Warranty / Certification / Accreditation
Make sure your kit is E-Marked and look for extended warranty terms. A 2-year warranty is often a gauge of quality. FORS Associate Suppliers is a good starting point when selecting your supplier.
