The New DVS Progressive Safe System

In October 2023, TfL announced its new DVS legislation, known as Phase 2 of the Direct Vision Standard, which changes both the benchmark for vehicles that require a safe system and the specifications of the safe system itself. Under the current legislation, HGVs weighing over 12T that are rated 0 stars on the DVS star rating system require a DVS kit. However, under Direct Vision Standard Phase 2, the benchmark for HGVs requiring a safe system will be raised to 3 stars. Any vehicles rated 2 stars or less on the DVS star rating system will need to be fitted with the new DVS Progressive Safe System from October 2024.
The Progressive Safe System will be a smarter, more sophisticated way of keeping HGVs and other road users safe when travelling in Greater London, and will be vital to TfL's efforts to eliminate all road deaths and serious injuries from London’s streets by 2041.

Loughborough testing of Durite Progressive Safe System
After fitting the Durite PSS on the Road Haulage Association (RHA) Training Truck, we returned with Loughborough University for further testing.
In response to customer requests for added assurance and cost savings for fleet operators and drivers, Durite commissioned Loughborough University for independent testing of the Progressive Safe System (PSS).
We’re pleased to confirm that the results show the Durite PSS meets the BSIS/MOIS specification and complies with the PSS test requirements set by Transport for London (TfL).
