What is the Direct Vision Standard (DVS)?
Find out how to make your fleet compliant with our DVS cameras and safety products to avoid daily fines.
The Direct Vision Standard, or 'DVS', is a safety legislation enforced by Transport for London (TfL) from March 2021 in order to improve road safety across Greater London. The Direct Vision Standard applies to all HGVs over 12T travelling through Greater London. The DVS Phase 2 was brought into force in October 2024 along with additional DVS London compliance requirements.
All vehicles must now apply for a DVS Safety Permit and meet a minimum DVS 3-star rating or fit a Progressive Safe System (PSS), in order to avoid a penalty of up to £550 per day.

As part of the DVS Progressive Safe System, vehicles must be equipped with side guards, Class V and VI mirrors, an audible left-turn alarm, and a nearside camera monitoring system to eliminate blind spots. The DVS Phase 2 system includes both a Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) and a Moving Off Information System (MOIS), using intelligent sensors to detect and alert the driver to moving objects, helping to reduce collision risks during low-speed manoeuvres.
